As someone is susceptible to distraction, I’m always looking for ways to boost my productivity and stay focused on my work. One technique that I recently tried and found helpful is the Pomodoro Technique. It was named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer.

I’ll share my experience and explain how it works, so you can decide if it’s the right approach for you. Firstly, the Pomodoro Technique involves breaking your work into short, focused sessions of 25 minutes, separated by brief breaks of 5-10 minutes. After four work sessions, you take a longer break of 15-30 minutes. 

I have found this approach to be incredibly helpful in staying focused. Even if you have the attention span of a goldfish, Setting a timer for 25 minutes and knowing that a break is coming soon helps you stay on track and avoid getting sidetracked by the latest viral TikTok trend! Use your breaks to do something that helps you relax and recharge – stretch, meditate, or take a power nap (just don’t forget to set your timer!)  I also found that taking short breaks in between work sessions helped to free up my mind and improve mental clarity. After completing a focused work session, I felt a sense of accomplishment and boosted motivation,

Overall, the Pomodoro Technique is a simple but effective way to manage your time and improve your productivity. Give it a try and see if it works for you – who knows, you might just get more done in a day than you ever thought possible!

While the Pomodoro Technique can be implemented using a digital timer or app, I personally preferred to purchase a physical Pomodoro timer. By using a timer that wasn’t connected to any electronic devices, I found that I was able to minimize distractions and stay focused on my work. Plus, I enjoyed the tactile experience of winding the timer and hearing the ticking sound as I worked. Using a physical timer also helped me to create a sense of separation between work time and break time, which in turn improved my ability to switch off and relax during my breaks. If you’re someone who’s looking to spend less time using electronic devices or simply prefers the feel of a physical timer, I would highly recommend giving a Pomodoro timer a try.
