Most of the time, there’s no conversation, things move fast during intervals. Just the sound of stopwatches going off, the stamping of feet, another glance at the training plan between rounds. A gulp of water. Catch your breath. Then back at it.
But there’s always that mutual pull forward.
You feel it in the pace they hold beside you. You try to match their effort. Their presence alone reminds you to keep going, to push a little harder.
And then, almost without realising, you’ve improved. You’re faster. Stronger.
